Alpha-Ranged

Postby MrC » Sat Feb 14, 2009 4:06 pm

As one of the few specyalised units this one got an extra articulation but less protection overall so its more maniable in hard terrain. Also sensor monted on the canon and it got a 360 rotation capability.

wow! thats pretty sweet..

- a few more angles? (side, top, perhaps front.)

- rase the main body away from the ground, add about half as much as it is off the ground now.

Other than that, I love it!

Perhaps make the cannon closer to the body and have it start positioned at a slight angle to demonstrate the fact that its bullets are long-ranged, and therefore travel in a bit of a curved trajectory.

Actually: is the unit supposed to be long-ranged, or just not melee?

its supposed to be a "sniper" like unit. AKA, its ranged AND no melee.

ya, I know it's not melee; I meant this: is it supposed to be really, really long-ranged, or is it somewhat short-ranged :P

You said it's a sniper, so I'm assuming it's really long-ranged, then :)

Looks like a good start! Derf, do you like the idea of having such... pointy "feet"? To me they make the unit look very delicate, not weak, mind you, just delicate. A glass cannon of sorts. I'm not sure if this is what you wanted or not, but that's just my $0.02.

meh, we are only doing general concepts right now. considering im not entirely sure how it would look in 3d.. may in fact opt for a foot that is the same size as the leg is now.. not the knee mind you.

Hello :)

If you could start a new topic in the 3D Unit Art/Core 3D Models forum, that would be great :)

Most of us don't have a copy of Max, either, so if you could post some screenshots of the model, that would be awesome.

Thanks,

I analyzed the model, me being the resident Max head here (I think). lol
Anyways..To many polygons. Use only about 8-9 sides on cylinders..Small parts could be even less polygonal, due to you wont be able to see that up close. I would try and shoot for 2,500 or so.. Also final one, needs no lights/cameras in the Scene.
You should also try and make 3 models too, I think were are going for LOD's. Eli might tell you more. But the model looks well done, just polys need work.

Also I noticed you are using a different method of Unit's. They should be 1 Meter Units..Most games go on these.

Ok, it's now 1500 polys. What are LOD's? Oh, and I forgot to change to units to meters before I saved it.
