Blith

Postby Julio Nicoletti » Tue Jun 09, 2009 11:20 pm

As I promised, here is a Blith concept I made up when I was supposed to be studying for a reproductive system test in Biology :P
Image
I can get some different head ideas up if people would like. It was described as a reptilian/ raptor-like creature. I decided to make it match what seems to be a common trend in the Cronoliths so far -legs with elongated heels. He has his staff, as well as a dangly thing which can be a spell casting ornament maybe? I gave him some tattered garb as well. Oh and he's blind. His brain used for psychic stuff is visible, and should probably have a glow around it. The main part of the brain is located at the back of the cranium, protected by a triceratops-inspired headpiece.

This is an excellent vision for the Blith! I'm really loving the exposed brain part of it :o. The magic-piece in it's right hand is nice too. Could you draw a back-side view of the unit, as well as a separate image for the magic-piece and another for the stave? I'm liking the way the unit is, but want to focus on the stave and magic-piece.

Will do! Yeah, the "intricately carved stave" isn't quite as intricatly carved as it should be...I shall work on them today.

hehe, thanks. Also, the blind part was a perfect addition. Br1ck3d mentioned that he thought it would be fitting for Callers to be blind (and I agreed), since they 'feel' the weather and terrain around them. Since the Blith evolves from the Caller, it matches perfectly for it to be blind as well 8-).
I'm thinking of giving Deevers a different form of sight since they're flying units, but evolve from the Caller as well.

Hey Julio, Christopher has also requested to reserve this unit, but he hasn't made any posts for quite a while. His profile shows that he was last active yesterday, so I have to assume that he is at least browsing the forum a bit and hasn't forgotten us as others have. I've sent him a PM, asking if wants to still work on this unit or not.

Because I really like your submission for this unit I'm going to let you continue working on it and if Christopher wants to work on it as well, he can make his own submissions for the unit, which will provide two choices to choose from for us :).

Sorry Chris! Didn't realize!

Anyways, as promised, a back view of the blith. I will leave the design of the dangly chain thing and the staff to the texture artists and modelers...

Just let me know what you would like to see different and I'll get on it. I think the Blith seems more like a special unit...like one per army, mainly because of the staff. Perhaps the staff could be an upgrade for a squad leader?

Thanks for the second view :). Considering that this unit can summon armor and/or weapons for allies from other races as well, plus it stacks up to three times, it is a very effective unit if you use it properly and could be decimating for enemy players that don't have the same advantage. We could probably limit it to 1 or 2 of them at once.

I also never thought of how the weapons/armor dissolves (cause it's obviously not - and shouldn't be, permanent).
Right now I'm thinking of these possibilities:
  • It is an 'aura' that provides the bonuses to units within range and the bonuses stack up to 3 as long as the units stay within range
  • The spell can be cast very quickly and frequently on individual units (have an auto-cast or something for this one) and a unit can be cast upon up to 3 times
  • The spell can be cast individually and cover a small or large area. Units that are cast upon multiple times have the bonuses stacked up to 3 (the area could be small at first, then an upgrade makes it bigger, which makes me like this method more for now)

As a kind of 'final' on the unit, let's add some color. I'm thinking dark green for the majority of the body with maybe black eyes and a fluorescent-orange brain O__O, lol. Or maybe a green brain, with black skin, and red eyes. You can go with a color scheme you like instead though :).

For the armour thing, what you could do is have it form up around the unit, and then it would just fall to the ground after.

I'll do some concepts maybe of what I'm thinking. Something like chunks of earth flying up and creating like a floating wall that would be controlled by the user, and if the unit wanted to attack, it could just drop the chunk of earth and it would fall and crash to the ground.

I've never done digital painting other than facebook graffiti so I'm thinking that the guy who did the Sylar might want to paint it if he doesn't mind...

I may be wrong here, but....I don't think Christopher is really up for coloring units; he was kind enough to provide us with an awesome piece on concept art, but he does art professionally, so he's got a pretty busy schedule.
